A New Era of Excellence Rooted in Tradition

Exciting News

From the President and Board of Trustees of the Hebrew Academy of the Capital District to all of our members and friends:

It is with great excitement that we announce the first phase of our multi-year facilities modernization initiative. After many years of thoughtful assessment and careful planning, HACD is thrilled to announce that our students and faculty will start the 2018/19 school year in a modern facility that is bright, clean, accessible and of course - conducive to learning. In September of 2018, we will be located in the beautiful educational wing of Congregation Beth Emeth at 100 Academy Road in Albany. Attached is a preview of our next home.

We have occupied our current building on Sand Creek Road for over 30 years. As the fifth home of HACD, our 88-year-old building has served our school well and we are forever grateful to the community members who made it possible. However, we anticipate that the building will require significant upgrades and repairs within the next few years. In efforts to remain a strong, forward-looking community school, the Board of Trustees consulted with Capital Region community leaders and Jewish organizations, as well as professionals in real estate, development and architecture to determine our next steps. Moving into an existing modern facility is the perfect option at this time. The second phase of our facilities modernization initiative - which will commence after we settle into our new space - is to plan and build a new school, working with one or more partner Capital Region Jewish organizations.

Although we will be in a new location, HACD will still remain an independent school - providing a premier educational experience for our children, that includes both outstanding academics and enriching extracurricular programming. Two open house events will take place at Congregation Beth Emeth to introduce everyone to our new space: November 20 at 7PM and December 3 at 5PM. After a brief presentation and discussion, we’ll take you on a tour so you can see firsthand why we are so excited to share this news with all of you. During and after the tour, we will be available to answer all of your questions.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our open house events.
