Dear Dolphinim Parents,

I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!  We have had another busy week in the Dolphinim classroom.

We finished learning the history of Chanukah. We are continuing to read Chanukah stories, listen to songs, and learn the dinim (laws) of the holiday. For example, we learned the proper placement of the candles in the Hanukkiyah, and which candle to light first each night.  We discussed which candles to light first on Friday evening, Shabbat candles or Chanukah candles. We also talked about the proper order on Saturday evening – Havdalah first, and then the Chanukah candles.

In Humash, we discussed Reuven going back to check on his brother Yosef in the pit, and his reaction and actions when Yosef was not there.

This week’s parasha is called Parashat Vayishlach. The three main topics were: Esav and Ya’acov making peace, Ya’acov’s dream and receiving an additional name, and Rachel giving birth to Binyamin and dying shortly after. With the help of Rashi, Rabbi Nachman, and Da’at Mikrah, we were able to discuss in depth the reason why Ya’acov received the name of Yisrael.

Shabbat Shalom,

Keren
