A New Era of Excellence Rooted in Tradition

Dolphinim Newsletter

January 23, 2015

Dear Dolphinim Parents,

Here are the main topics discussed this week in Chumash:

  • Yosef and his relationship with Hashem
  • How Hashem blessed Yosef in Potiphar’s house
  • How Hashem blessed Potiphar house and Potiphar becoming successful due to Hashem’s blessing

In this week’s parasha, Parashat Bo, we discussed the last three plagues that G-d brought upon the Mitzrim, the korban Pesach, and Yitziat Mitzrayim.  We discussed what we do today to remind us of what happened a long time ago: we eat matzah, tell the story of Yitziat Mitzrayim to children, and hang a mezuzah on our doorposts.

The weekly parasha question was: Why did Bnai Yisrael put blood on their doorposts?

We discussed this question and with the help of Eban Ezra and Rabbi Yitzchak Arama we were able to come up with an answer.

While discussing the upcoming holiday of Tu B’shvat, we focused on the mitzvah of Ba’al Tashchit (do not destroy). The Dolphinim related this mitzvah to our environment and how we can take care of the trees. Different scenarios were presented and discussed whether they fall into this category or not. One story in particular caught the attention of the Dolphinim about Rav Kook and picking a leaf off a tree.

Shabbat Shalom,

Morah Keren
