We are continuing our unit on sound! Students used an oscilloscope, connected to our classroom’s Smartboard, to see and learn about sound waves and properties of sound. We also had two hands-on labs in which students learned about variables, transverse waves, etc. and applied their understandings to experiments. In addition, each student wrote an essay about our sound unit so far, combining ELA skills with science knowledge. Our sound unit will continue this week with a lesson related to a Dr. Seuss book, and the creation of a musical instrument.
As a preview of our next social studies topic, exploration, we are continuing with a class reading of the book Stowaway by Karen Hesse. This wonderful historical novel tells the story of a young boy on explorer James Cook’s ship. Through historical maps, we are following the journey while learning about many of the interesting aspects of exploration. Stay tuned for more information about our exploration unit.
The class is learning to use Power Point for school presentations. In addition to the technical aspects of the program, students are learning how to set up an organized presentation, and speak to a group while using the Power Point as a visual. Each student is expected to present using Power Point by the end of this week.
Other English language arts activities continue, as usual, including Daily Language lessons, cursive writing, and Time for Kids magazines.
Wishing you a Chag Chanukkah Sameach,
